Ellen J Craft | A Beautiful Blur: Motion- and Memory-Infused Landscapes

About this Artist

I’m a multimedia artist interested in the intersection of painting and photography, including alternative processes such as cyanotypes and printmaking with a 3D-printed plate using my photography. My favorite subjects are urban scenes, portraiture, and flora and fauna found in public parks/gardens. My work has recently been exhibited at the Center on Contemporary Art (CoCA) and the Gage Academy of Art in Seattle, and the L.A. Center of Photography and the Art Center Morro Bay in California.

About this Work

One of my most cherished childhood memories is driving through the farmlands of Eastern Pennsylvania. From the backseat, the fields resembled patchwork quilts in earthen hues. Today, I photograph the Skagit and Snohomish valley farmlands from my car in the Pacific Northwest. The motion of the car lends a compelling and sometimes mysterious atmosphere to the images. The abstracted colors, patterns, and textures represent the blur of my memories.
