Steve Baranski is a Bay Area engineer and photographer. After early adventures with a range of cameras, he recently returned his focus to the craft, finding it a welcome creative counterweight to a day job spent with software.
About this Work
After dark, the Bay Area's ordinary corners become saturated portraits of place — neon script, a blue-hour marquee, lanterns over an alley, a sign that insists there's nothing to see. Each is lit by something a person built and switched on. My work usually leans toward landscapes and quiet architecture; this series was a chance to seek color and experiment with night light instead — to find the city not at rest, but quietly open late.
