Suzanne Porter | Left Behind
About this Artist
I am a retired Las Vegas police officer turned portrait photographer. My experiences as an officer affected me in many ways; perhaps, that is why my love of photography has grown into deep respect for it. We are often jumping to the next moment, not taking the time to etch it into our memories the way it deserves. A photograph allows us to travel back to a memory we had forgotten, to a person we miss, to a version of ourselves that no longer exists.
About this Work
The fall of 2025 was heartbreaking for Las Vegans, with an unusually high number of traffic fatality victims being children. A feeling of helplessness inspired me to begin this project. I experimented with blurring techniques to emphasize the feeling of chaos which surrounds loss and to create ghostly imagery. These are just three people who left behind grieving loved ones. These are the artifacts their loved ones left behind for them.
