Barry Johnson | One Sky

About this Artist

I love traveling, exploring new places, and sharing the images I bring home. In recent years, my focus has expanded to the natural world & oceans as I am a longtime scuba diver. I've long believed we should all try to leave the planet a little better than we found it. By helping people appreciate the beauty and fragility of nature, especially the underwater world—and what we all stand to lose, even those things we’ve never seen firsthand—I hope to contribute in a small way.

About this Work

These six images illustrate a simple concept. We all have far more in common than not, we all live under the same sky. Images in this series span Washington, California, Arizona & Alaska. The project created a lot of learning opportunity; all of the images incorporate long exposure at very wide angles with strong foregrounds to give geographic context. I sought to use the Night sky or dramatic sunsets as a unifying element across all of the images. While they don’t all include precisely the same set of stars or constellations, you’ll just have to take trust me when I say it’s all the same sky 😉
