Tristan Simons | Coordinated Exposures
About this Artist
I first picked up the camera in an effort to slow myself down enough to enjoy the ephemeral; a torch to wield against the foggy corners of my personal life history. Being an obsessive learner and lifelong musician, I quickly discovered the practice’s vast creative potential as a deeply expressive and inherently personal art form. My subject matter is diverse. I naturally gravitate toward photographing the habitat and wildlife I aim to restore and protect through my life’s work as a conservationist. As a queer person, I aim to harness photography as a device to subvert expectations and break rules.
About this Work
Coordinated Exposures is an abstract exploration of the Coast Salish Landscape and its magnificent textures, both natural and manmade. The following images each layer two distinct exposures with the intention of connecting texture to a broader context while portraying moods elusive through traditional, non-destructive, photographic processing. The images invite the viewer to consider the relationship between the combined source images.
The series leans-into surrealism while exploring themes of interconnectivity and the resilience of the natural world.
